CAS No.: 12125-02-9
It is white crystalline powder or colorless cubic crystals; odorless, with a slightly salty taste. Highly soluble in water.
Applications in Animal Nutrition:
Ruminants (cattle, sheep, goats): Used as a Non-Protein Nitrogen (NPN) source to partially replace dietary protein; also acts as an acidifying agent to lower urinary pH and help prevent urolithiasis (urinary calculi / water belly) in feedlot lambs and bulls. Added as an anion source to support dietary cation-anion balance (DCAB) in pre-partum dairy cows to reduce the risk of milk fever.
Cats & Dogs: Used as a urine acidifier to help prevent the formation of struvite (magnesium ammonium phosphate) urinary stones by lowering urine pH.
Others: Occasionally used in aquatic feed for liver protection and in poultry as an anti-heat stress additive.
Recommended Dosage (Reference):
Ruminants: 0.5%–1.0% in complete feed. Up to 1% is considered safe for restricted periods (≤ 3 months); for long-term feeding, 0.5% (≈ 5,000 mg/kg feed) is recommended.
Cats & Dogs: Typically 0.3%–0.5% (≈ 3,000–5,000 mg/kg complete feed). Dosage should be adjusted based on the overall dietary anion-cation balance.
Note: Overdosing may cause metabolic acidosis. Always mix thoroughly with other feed ingredients.
Packing & Storage:
Package: 25 kg/bag.
Shelf Life: 24 months when stored properly.
Storage: Keep in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight, moisture, and incompatible substances (strong acids, strong bases). Slightly hygroscopic—seal tightly after opening.
