Flumequine

Flumequine is a first-generation synthetic quinolone (fluoroquinolone-class) antibacterial agent. It was originally developed for human use but is now primarily used as a veterinary antibiotic, especially in livestock, poultry, and aquaculture.
Indications / Uses:
Veterinary (Primary Use)
Treats bacterial infections caused mainly by Gram-negative bacteria:
Poultry & livestock (calves, pigs, sheep, goats): Colibacillosis (E. coli), salmonellosis, pasteurellosis, hemorrhagic septicemia, respiratory/GI infections
Aquaculture (salmon, trout, etc.): Furunculosis caused by Aeromonas salmonicida, enteric infections by Aeromonas/Vibrio
Administered via medicated feed or drinking water (oral route)
Historical Human Use (Now Rare/Discontinued)
Previously used for uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs) due to Gram-negative coverage
Largely withdrawn in many countries due to limited spectrum and reports of ocular toxicity / anaphylaxis.
